Introduction to the IELTS test (including "B1" test)

(This site is currently being updated)

Welcome to EDU! We have offered IELTS in Denmark since 2007 and in Norway since August 2022, in cooperation with British Council. You can take IELTS on Computer and IELTS on Paper in person at the test centre, with a face-to-face Speaking test with a real person.

For Denmark:
The IELTS test is used for family reunification in Denmark and the IELTS test is accepted by Udlændingestyrelsen (the Danish Immigration Service). Choose IELTS and not "Life Skills B1" for this purpose. "B1 test" refers to a test with a result at level B1 from the CEFR system. The corresponding CEFR level is printed next to your IELTS scores on your test report.

IELTS is the most widely accepted English language test that uses a one-on-one speaking test to assess your English communication skills. This means that you are assessed by having a real-life conversation with a real person. This is the most effective and natural way of testing your English conversation skills and it is very popular compared to talking into a computer on a machine prompt.

2. Who is behind IELTS?
IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment - some of the world's leading experts in language assessment. It is offered through test centres and locations in over 140 countries and it has an excellent international reputation. Test writers from different English-speaking countries develop IELTS content so it reflects real-life situations.

3. What types of the test are there?
IELTS Academic is for those who want to study at higher education level in an English-speaking country, or for professional registration in various professions. IELTS General Training is for work and migration purposes or some education purposes.

You will find more Information for Candidates here.

4. What are IELTS for UKVI ("SELT" IELTS) and IELTS Life Skills (for UK visa applications only)?

If you are applying for a visa to study, move to or remain in the UK, please read this important information about the IELTS Test for UK Visas and Immigration purposes. Check with the relevant authorities which IELTS you need to take. Not all universities in the UK require the UKVI-version of IELTS (also called "SELT" IELTS test).

The contents of IELTS and UKVI-IELTS are exactly the same.

The IELTS General Training and Academic versions of the test are available for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), as well as the IELTS Life Skills test for candidates who need to prove their speaking and listening skills at levels A1 or B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.

For UKVI IELTS you can register here.
Life Skills tests A1 and B1 are available in Denmark and if no date is open you can register your interest here and stay informed.
