Which UKVI test should you take?
IELTS for UKVI
If you are a student going to the UK, please check with your university/college/school if you need IELTS for UKVI or regular IELTS, before booking it.
All universities and colleges in the UK accept IELTS (Academic) results. This means you may not need to take an IELTS for UKVI (Academic) test, but can submit an IELTS (Academic) result instead.
IELTS and IELTS for UKVI have the same content. However, the Test Report Form (TRF) with your results is slightly different to show that you have taken the test at an official IELTS for UKVI (SELT) location, which is approved by the UK Home Office.
If you take IELTS for UKVI, you can also use these results anywhere where you can use IELTS.
Life Skills A1 and B1 - only for immigration to the UK
Life Skills A1 or B1 is a test with Listening and Speaking only, and is only for immigration to the UK. If you are not a student, please always check with the visa authorities or your agent which test you need, before making a booking.
UKVI test fee, registration and payment
The test fee for IELTS for UKVI is NOK 3.640 / DKK 2.345
The fee for Life skills is NOK 2.200 / DKK 1.370
Test takers unable to register online can request an application form from the test centre.
Proof of identity
You will need to provide evidence of your identity at the test location before you can take the test. Your identity document must:
- be current and valid
- be an original, not a photocopy
- include a photo of you
- match the information you gave when you booked the test
The most reliable source of information when it comes to ID documents acceptable for UKVI is the UK HO official website.
Payment instructions
You find the payment instructions in the acknowledgement email that you receive after registration, and also in the blue Payment tab in the test taker portal. Payment is done by bank transfer. Bank transfers do not generate an immediate payment confirmation, but you will get a confirmation as soon as we have checked the received payments in our account.
You may get a payment reminder while your payment is in transit, as the system does not recognise weekends and holidays.
Preparation for the UKVI test
The content of IELTS for UKVI is exactly the same as for the regular IELTS. You can use the preparation materials available or both. See preparation for IELTS
