If you are over 18 years old and need to take the IELTS Academic test, an alternative to an in-centre test can be IELTS Online, a net-based version of IELTS Academic.
IELTS Online is the same Academic test that you would take in a test centre but can be taken on your own computer from your home or office. The test is delivered on an online platform which you will need to install on your computer in advance of the test, and your test will be proctored remotely. The Speaking test will be conducted by video-call in advance of the written parts of the test. Your test results will be available 6 – 8 calendar days after your test.
IELTS is widely recognised by educational institutions world-wide. However you should check with the organisation you are applying to make sure that they accept IELTS Online, as IELTS Online is not as widely accepted as the in-centre test.
Please be aware that IELTS Online is not accepted by immigration authorities and you can not apply for a One Skill Retake. This means that you have to take the whole test again if you want to improve your score in one of the test parts (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking).
